Three juveniles were arrested Sunday evening, accused of robbing a Kansas City woman after she offered to give them candy money at a store at 54th Street and Prospect Avenue.
The incident was reported just after 9 p.m. The victim said three boys approached her and asked for some money to buy candy. The woman spoke to the preteen boys for a few minutes and felt comfortable enough to give them some money, said Officer Darin Snapp, a police spokesman.
“She felt safe, and when she was opening her purse, she was robbed,” Snapp said. “They took the money out of her purse.”
The thieves also snatched a .38-caliber handgun that was inside the woman’s purse, police said. The woman saw one of the the juveniles get into a car while the others ran away.
The same car drove by when the officers interviewed the woman.
Police arrested three juveniles moments later, including the child with the gun, police said.
