A new programming arm of Lee’s Summit CARES has launched two events for young women who’ve recently graduated high school.
Launch, a nonprofit partner of Lee’s Summit CARES, announced recently in a press release the start of a “challenge” for young women in Lee’s Summit.
According to the press release, the “Launch Challenge” is an opportunity for Lee’s Summit girls of the high school class of 2017 to win $250 cash toward the funding of their “next big thing.” The money can be used to pay for school, books, housing, travel, supplies or any other expense.
The challenge asks young women to view a brief online presentation and complete an online quiz. Any girl who scores 100 percent on the quiz will be entered into a random drawing for the cash prize.

The Launch Challenge closes 11:59 p.m. July 10, and the prize will be awarded at an annual event called The Packing Party on July 12. The winner must be in attendance to claim the prize.
The nonprofit program said the content of the challenge aligns with the curriculum of The Packing Party, which is designed to equip recent high school graduates for their next phase of life. Through the Launch Challenge and The Packing Party, Launch says Lee’s Summit girls will be receiving training from professionals in the areas of space organization, healthy nutrition and sexual assault prevention through engagement.
The Packing Party event is scheduled from 6-10 p.m. July 12 in the Aspen Room at The Stanley. The event will feature dinner from Garozzo’s Ristorante, a fashion show by Jolly’s, presentations, including a keynote speaker from Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault, and question-and-answer sessions for recent graduates and mothers.
Tickets for young women who have recently graduated high school are $15. Participants may invite their mothers to attend for an additional $10. Tickets may be purchased online at http://bit.ly/The_Packing_Party_Tickets.
