The Lee’s Summit North High School Junior Air Force ROTC is among 356 units nationwide to receive the 2016-17 Distinguished Unit Award.
The award recognizes Air Force Junior ROTC units that have performed well above normal expectations and distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their schools and communities while meeting the ROTC citizenship development mission.
Objectives of the program are to educate and train high-school cadets in citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill responsibility, character and self-discipline through character education; and to provide instruction in air and space fundamentals.
Air Force Junior ROTC operates in close to 900 U.S. high schools at selected schools worldwide.
