PTA scholarships awarded

The Lee’s Summit Council of PTAs has awarded six $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors. The students completed an application focused on scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement, PTA membership and financial need. The applicants also wrote short essays on their plans for the future.

Scholarship winners are Spencer Goldsmith and Ali Dowlatshahi of Lee’s Summit High School, Dawson Cole and Brenna Johnson of Lee’s Summit North High School, and Cameron Gonzalez and Casey Cunningham of Lee’s Summit West High School.

Summer reading? Go to Farmers Market on Wednesdays

School may be out for the summer, but reading shouldn’t be.

Library staffers from the Lee’s Summit School District are available at the Lee’s Summit Farmers Market from 7 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, through July 26. Students are invited to check out materials and talk to librarians about selections.

Books will be available for a wide variety of ages. In addition, students are invited to access free ebooks and audiobooks online. Information is available at www.lsr7.org.
