Nearly $300,000 available in grant funding for nonprofits

Nonprofits that are located in or serve eastern Jackson County are invited to submit proposals for grant funding from the Truman Heartland Community Foundation, which is making approximately $140,000 available through the Community Grants program and approximately $150,000 available from the Jelley Family Foundation Endowment for Children’s Education during the 2018 cycle.

Jelley Family Foundation Endowment for Children’s Education grants should “be visionary, big-idea projects demonstrating strong educational programming.”

They also should be collaborative with other organizations and demonstrate either new and innovative approaches to education or provide educational programming focused on assisting at-risk children and youth.

The application deadline for Jelley Family Foundation Endowment for Children’s Education grants is March 15 and applicants will be notified of funding decisions in early July.

Community Grants should address arts, culture, and historic preservation; community betterment through neighborhood programs, youth development and leadership, or programs for seniors, transportation, violence prevention, etc.; education; or health and human services.

The deadline for Community Grants applications is April 2 and applicants will be notified of funding decisions in early October.

Applicants may apply to both programs but not for the same program.

The grants will be formally awarded at the Truman Heartland Community Foundation’s annual Grants Luncheon in November.

There is a grant-application workshop for those needing pointers scheduled for 3 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Midwest Public Risk, 19400 E. Valley View Parkway in Independence. An RSVP to Rachael Cassiday Watkins, the Foundation’s director of programs and donor services, is requested for those planning to attend at watkins@thcf.org or 816-912-4185.

Complete guidelines for both grant programs and online applications are available at http://www.thcf.org/Grant-Scholarship-Seekers/Grants.
