Shawnee Mission South High School inducted its sixth class into the Raider Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of Friday night’s basketball game.

The three-member group of inductees were Vince Parrette, Ron Millard and John Dillon.

Dillon and Parrette graduated in 1976. Dillon played linebacker on the 1975 state-champion football team and catcher on the 1975 state-champion baseball team.

Millard, who retired in 2011, was the school’s first girls basketball coach in 1975 and also became volleyball coach in 1986. His teams won the 1993 Kansas state volleyball title and the 1995 state basketball title.

Parrette won two state track and field team championships and 10 individual state championships in his time at SM South. He starred at Kansas State and would have been a prime candidate to make the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, but the United States boycotted the 1980 Moscow Games.

Parrette, now a renowned jazz musician, returned to SM South on Friday for the first time in 40 years.
