Last week: Defeated Blue Valley Northwest 57-14
Dawson Downing scored five rushing touchdowns and quarterback Carter Putz added four through the air.
2. Blue Valley North (1-0, 1-0)
Last week: Defeated Blue Valley Southwest 41-0
Joey Dolan scored three touchdowns and Josh Pederson added two more for the Mustangs in their EKL shutout.
3. Blue Valley (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated SM Northwest 62-27
The Tigers matched SM Northwest’s entire scoring effort in the second quarter for a season-opening victory.
4. Blue Valley West (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Lawrence 35-14
The Jaguars allowed 35 unanswered points from Lawrence to start the game. Nathan Wiles scored both touchdowns.
5. St. Thomas Aquinas (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Mill Valley 38-20
Jacob Leikam scored two touchdowns, but the Class 5A top-ranked Saints stumbled in their season opener.
6. Blue Valley Northwest (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to Bishop Miege 57-14
The Huskies kept pace in the first quarter, but gave up 22 unanswered points before halftime to Bishop Miege.
7. Blue Valley Southwest (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to Blue Valley North
Despite a forced turnover on the first drive, the Timberwolves failed to capitalize and were shutout by Blue Valley North.
8. Gardner Edgerton (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to SM East 45-0
The Trailblazers’ losing streak was extended to 11 games after the shutout loss to the 6A defending champion SM East.
1. Shawnee Mission North (1-0, 1-0)
Last week: Defeated SM South 22-8
Quarterback Will Schneider, a three-year starter, passed for one touchdown and ran for another in the Indians’ victory.
2. Shawnee Mission West (1-0, 1-0)
Last week: Defeated Lawrence Free State 34-26
The Vikings turned some heads with a victory over Free State that avenged last year’s season-opening loss.
3. Lawrence (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated Blue Valley West 35-14
JD Woods scored three touchdowns and Alan Clothier passed for two in the Chesty Lions’ victory.
4. Olathe Northwest (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated Hays 23-9
The Ravens avenged last year’s season-opening loss to Hays with a big victory on the road last week.
5. Shawnee Mission East (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated Gardner Edgerton 45-0
The Class 6A defending state champions picked up where they left off. Their shutout victory extend winning streak to 14 games.
6. Leavenworth (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Great Bend 19-17
The Pioneers gave up two unanswered touchdowns in the second half and lost a heartbreaker on the road.
7. Olathe East (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Garden City 28-14
The Hawks fell on the road in Jesse Owen’s debut as coach. The team has lost six straight games over the last two seasons.
8. Olathe North (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Rogers Heritage (Ark.) 35-33
The Eagles jumped out to a 13-point lead in the first quarter, but allowed 15 unanswered in the second quarter.
9. Olathe South (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Hutchinson 48-14
The Falcons were blown away by the Kansas Class 6A runner-up in the second installment of the home-and-away series.
10. Shawnee Mission Northwest (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Blue Valley 62-27
The Cougars gave up 27 points in the second quarter alone and lost to Blue Valley to open the season.
11. Lawrence Free State (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to Shawnee Mission West 34-26
The Firebirds lost their season opener for the first time since 2011.
12. Shawnee Mission South (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to SM North 22-8
The Raiders gave up 22 unanswered points before Cam Union scored on a six-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
1. Mill Valley (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 38-20
Logan Koch passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more in the Jaguars’ victory over the Kansas 5A top-ranked team.
2. St. James Academy (1-0, independent)
Last week: Defeated Pleasant Hill 28-8
Dylan Streeter put the game away with an 80-yard kickoff return for a third-quarter touchdown. He also had four extra points.
3. De Soto (1-0, 0-0)
Last week: Defeated Harmon 56-0
For the second straight season, the Wildcats routed Harmon to open the season. It was the first shutout since 2012 for the defense.
4. Maranatha Christian/Immaculata (0-1, 0-0)
Last week: Lost to Oswego 20-16
The newly combined program lost its season opener, but will play its first home game on Friday in Leavenworth.
5. Spring Hill (0-1, 0-1)
Last week: Lost to Paola 60-25
The Broncos finished the game strong with 19 fourth-quarter points, but lost in Jason Feeback’s coaching debut.
