Johnson County happenings in September: Prairie Village Jazz Festival, Overland Park Fall Festival

Prairie Village Jazz Festival Sept. 7

This year’s performers include Marilyn Maye Trio, Bobby Watson All-Star Big Band with special guest Jon Faddis, Mutual Musicians Foundation All Stars, Everett DeVan — Chris Hazelton Quartet, Andy McGhie Quintet and Parallax. The event benefits the Heartland Habit for Humanity’s A Brush with Kindness, which helps low-income homeowners maintain the exteriors of their residence through painting, landscaping, weather stripping and repairs.

Racers at the 6th Annual Lung Cancer 5k Run/Walk and 1/2-Mile Walk enjoy a scenic route through the Leawood South Golf Course. A kids dash, face painting and other activities are offered. The occasion concludes with a 10 a.m. awards ceremony. Proceeds benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership.
