The acquisition followed a move by Terracon to expand in the Rochester, N.Y., area.
Terracon, which is based in Olathe, is an employee-owned engineering consulting firm with more than 3,500 employees in more than 130 offices.
Terracon said the Mayes purchase was its fifth acquisition in the western United States in the past two years.
“This acquisition allows us to significantly expand our presence and service offering in the Pacific Northwest,” David Gaboury, Terracon’s president and chief executive said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Lenexa-based Shafer Kline & Warren Inc. announced the opening of a new office in Austin, Texas.
The surveying and engineering company said the office will serve the Austin and San Antonio areas, focusing on infrastructure development and energy.
