When it comes to voting, Kansans have a right that our Missouri brethren don’t: We can vote in advance without needing an excuse, such as being away on business or sick in the hospital.
And in Kansas, that no-excuse advance voting for the Aug. 5 primary began July 16 by mail.
To vote in this important primary, the Johnson County Election Office offers several ways to vote.
First, by mail: To vote by mail, complete an application and fax to 913-791-8931, 913-791-8932 or 913-791-8933 or mail it to Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061. Applications are available online at jocoelection.org and at the election office and libraries. The application must be received at the election office before 5 p.m. Aug. 1.
Next, in person in advance: In-person advance voting begins Monday at four locations.
At the Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road in Olathe, hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 1; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26 and Aug. 2; and 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 4.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 1, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26 and Aug. 2 at these locations:
Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20345 W. 151st St., Olathe.
Johnson County Northeast Offices, 6000 Lamar Ave., Mission.
Penton Media Office Building, first floor, 9800 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
Those locations are closed Aug. 4.
The Penton Media location replaces an advance voting site at Metcalf South Shopping Center, which is closing. “It was a very popular location, so we wanted something nearby,” election spokeswoman Jessica White said.
On Election Day: Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 5. Visit kansascity.com for results that evening.
With all the ways to vote, Kansans have no excuse not to.
You must present a government-issued photo ID each time you vote in Kansas. Valid IDs include your driver’s license, nondriver ID card, U.S. passport or Kansas college ID.
