Officials proposing a big public park and private housing development in northeast Johnson County will be available to explain the project March 10 and 11 at two open houses.
The events will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on both days at Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club at Nall Avenue and Somerset Drive. People are welcome to drop in, ask questions and give comments.
Plans for redevelopment of the Meadowbrook golf course and club facilities will be explained by officials from VanTrust Real Estate, Johnson County Park and Recreation and the city of Prairie Village.
The proposals, which require public input, a zoning change for part of the property and some financing steps before final approval, call for 94 acres of parkland with walking trails and lakes that would become the largest green space in northeast Johnson County.

The remaining 42 acres of the country club property, owned by VanTrust, is designed to become privately built residential, including luxury apartments, townhomes, single-family houses and a senior living center. The plan also calls for a boutique inn.
As envisioned, the park would be on the north part of the site and the existing Meadowbrook club house would become a community center. The housing areas would surround lakes in the middle of the south part of the property.
Information will continue to be posted on the Prairie Village web page.
