The Fourth of July got off to a rainy start in Cass County on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop hundreds of Harrisonville residents from celebrating one of the biggest events of the year.
Harrisonville’s annual Hometown Fourth of July Celebration was held Tuesday at City Park offering games, food, pool time and a fireworks show.
A bike parade in the park kicked off this year’s Independence Day festivities. About two dozen local children of all ages decorated their bikes with stars and stripes and red, white and blue, and had a chance to win prizes, including a brand new bicycle.
The festival and fireworks show was organized by the Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Department, and this year’s lead sponsor for Harrisonville’s Hometown Fourth of July Celebration was Farmer’s Insurance — Dave Pritchett Agency on the Square.

This year’s festivities also included pool games and contests, free family-friendly activities, live entertainment by the band Timber Ridge at the amphitheater and a fireworks show over the City Park lakes. Fireworks were provided by Wald & Co., which is based in Greenwood.
