Raymore-Peculiar senior Shelby Martinez has been selected to take part in the Kansas vs. Missouri High School All-Star Challenge.

Martinez, a 6-foot senior center, is one of 15 players picked to represent Missouri in the 21st annual boys’ and girls’ all-star games organized by the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association. This year’s event will take place April 13 at Avila University.

Martinez, a Suburban Gold all-conference selection, started all 25 games for the Panthers last season and averaged 12.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field. Ray-Pec finished 12-13 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

The Missouri girls’ roster also includes Amaya Adams of Notre Dame de Sion, Brodi Byrd and Erin Davis of Truman, Kinly Grubb of Odessa, Antionette Mussorici of St. Pius X, Kayel Newland of Liberty, Jill Rumpf of Mid-Buchanan, Tracy Byrd of St. Joseph-Lafayette, Callie Schwarzenbach of Kearney, Taiya Shelby of Park Hill, Cassidy Turner of North Kansas City, and Kate Walsworth of Barstow.

Kearney girls’ coach Troy Resler and assistant Mindy Gray, who led the Bulldogs to the Class 4 state tournament last month, will coach the Missouri women along with Bud Nelson and Randy Florence of Odessa.

The Missouri boys’ team features four of the five DiRenna Award finalists: Christian Bishop of Lee’s Summit West, Ochai Agbaji of Oak Park, Jalen Lewis of Liberty and Damien Daniels of Hogan Prep.

Bishop, a 6-8 forward, has signed with Creighton and Agbaji, a 6-5 forward, has committed to Kansas.
