Belton’s three state champions make Suburban Blue all-conference wrestling team

State champions Joe Biondo, Andrew Gamble and Robert Weber of Belton all received first-team honors when the Suburban Blue Conference’s all-conference wrestling team was announced last week.

Biondo, a senior, was selected first-team all-conference at 152 pounds. He finished 52-3 and won the Class 3 championship with a 6-2 decision against Pacific’s Ben Courtney at the state tournament Feb. 17 in Columbia.

Gamble, a junior, was a first-team pick at 160 pounds. He went 52-2 overall and became Belton’s first two-time state champion when he beat Warrenton’s Jerrett Villinger in overtime during the state final.

Gamble won the Class 3 state title at 120 pounds as a freshman but missed state his sophomore year with a knee injury.

Weber, a junior who made the first team at 170 pounds, became Belton’s second two-time champion when he pinned Pacific’s James Anding in the state final. He is also the Pirates’ second three-time state medalist and finished the year 44-5.

Seven members of Kearney’s Class 3 state-champion team also received first-team honors including Clayton Singh, who became the 27th four-time state champion in Missouri history when he won the Class 3 title at 120 pounds.

Three-time state champion Cody Phippen was one of six Platte County wrestlers to make the first team. Phippen, a senior, won the 126 title and finished with a 50-3 record.

Belton — Antonio Rizzi, freshman, 106; Brayden Bradley, junior, 113; Jack Goin, junior, 182; Keegan Bradley, sophomore, 220.

Grandview — Mario Quezada, sophomore, 285.

Kearney — Pierce Garner, senior, 126; Ethan Locke, senior, 160; Matthew Witthar, junior, 170; Daniel Piburn, senior, 285.

Platte County — Nick Filger, junior, 138; Nolan Saale, junior, 145; Colton Davis, senior, 152.

Raytown South — Lewis Caples, senior, 195.

Honorable mention selections were:

Grandview — Henderson Moore, junior, 160.
