Belton, Ray-Pec players selected for annual all-star football game

Some of the top graduated seniors from the 2016 high school football season, including three each from Belton and Raymore-Peculiar, have been selected to play in the Papa John’s Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game.

Heading the list from Belton is Nick Snider, a 5-foot-10 170 wide receiver. Snider had 1,254 yards on 90 catches with 17 touchdowns in just 11 games last season for the Pirates, and he also ran for 135 yards and five TDs.

A finalist for the Otis Taylor Award that goes to the Kansas City area’s top wide receiver last year, Snider has signed to play this fall with Baker University.

Also selected from Belton were Roger McDaniel, a 6-1 245-pound defensive lineman, and Tui Huston-Asaeli, a 6-0 290 offensive lineman.

Representing Ray-Pec will be Andrew Houston, a 5-10 175 defensive back headed to Central Missouri; Nick Cook, a 6-1 180 defensive back who has signed with Pittsburg State, and Genesis Combs, a 6-0 285 offensive lineman who is going to Benedictine.

The Missouri roster includes two other area standouts: Salvatore Garozzo, a 6-0 190 running back from Lee’s Summit who has signed with Central Missouri, and Zach Shanholtzer, a 5-9 170 wide receiver from Lee’s Summit West who is going to Pittsburg State.

Center football coach Bryan DeLong, who led his team to a 12-1 record and the Class 3 quarterfinals last season, will serve as the Missouri team’s head coach. The Kansas team will be coached by Rod Stallbaumer, who guided Basehor-Linwood to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the Kansas Class 4A-I semifinals.

The 26th annual Papa John’s Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game will take place 7 p.m. June 15 at Blue Springs High School’s Peve Stadium. The game matching Kansas and Missouri all-star teams is presented by the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Missouri, which beat Kansas 28-24 in last year’s game, has won the last six meetings and leads the all-time series 13-11.
