Avila hires academic VP

Cathryn Pridal, an administrator at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., will be the new vice president of academic affairs at Avila University starting in June.

Pridal, who has 32 years of experience in higher education, has served on the faculty at Texas A&M, the University of Missouri, William Woods and Westminster College before going to Middlebury College in Vermont in September 2007 as a part of the American Council on Education Fellows program.

She has been vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Cottey since July 2009.

At Avila, Pridal fills the position that Sister Marie Joan Harris has served in for nearly 30 years. Harris, who been at Avila for 45 years, announced last year that she plans to step away from her current role at the end of the current academic year. She will assume the role of provost emerita.

Pridal has a doctorate in psychology from Stony Brook University in New York.
