Martin Luther Academy

▪ Stellar speller: Annie Winkler, an eighth-grader, won the school's annual spelling bee earlier this month.

Annaliese Brogoto, an eighth-grader, was the runnerup, and Aliyah Austin, a fifth-grade student, placed third.

The academy is a private Christian school that educates students in kindergarten through eighth grades. It’s at 7112 N. Overland Drive in Kansas City, North.

Kansas State University

▪ Fall commencement honors: Vincent Carlisle of Parkville was selected as a reader for the Graduate School ceremony this month on the campus in Manhattan.

Carlisle is a doctoral student in educational leadership.

Liberty Middle School

*Robotics winners: The team qualified for the FIRST Lego League Regional Tournament in January by earning the Gracious Professionalism Award at the Kearney tournament.

Members of the team are Alec Centa, Sam Hall, Jayden Hayes, Will Laubscher, Connor Looney, Jake Rogers, Zach Schuele, Dylan Shields and Jacob Walker.

Park Hill School District

State musicians: High school students were selected by audition to perform with the Missouri All-State Band at the annual Missouri Music Educators Association conference in January.

From Park Hill High School, the musicians are seniors Barry Chang, James Cookinham, Mojan Felfeli, Benoit Gauthier, Kaleb Hascall and Leda Pivarcsik; and juniors Abigail Bowser, Jordan Evans and Nick Foster.

Qualifying from Park Hill South High School for the All-State Band are seniors Juliana Hsu and Renee Huey; and sophomore Lawrence Fang.
