Winnetonka High School

State recognition:

Andrew Green, a senior, was selected to participate in the American Legion Boys State of Missouri this summer.

Participants were chosen based on leadership, citizenship, academics and character. The weeklong program was held on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Green was one of nearly 1,000 students statewide who learned how to create a state government by voting and holding office. At Boys State he attended public administration school and was elected city treasurer for Doniphan City and a delegate to a county committee, Ward I.

Liberty School District

Student peacemakers honored:

The Model United Nations team was selected as a Top 25 team in North America.

Composed of students from both Liberty and Liberty North high schools, the team was ranked based on success at local and national conferences. The team’s awards during the 2012-13 academic year include Outstanding Large Delegation, and first- and second-place conference finishes.

The team is also one of the top 25 in the Midwest Region. The coaches are Kurt Gates and Ellen Meade.

Park Hill School District

Renner Elementary School:

The school earned silver-level recognition from the Missouri School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports organization.

The award was based on commitment to school improvement through a supportive environment for academic and social success for all students.

The principal is Teresa Tulipana, and the counselor is Amanda Shanks.

Board of Education:

The board received a 2013 Governance Team Award from the Missouri School Boards Association.

The award recognizes the board for continuous improvement through professional development, regional and statewide leadership, and active participation in legislative advocacy.
