Trustees elected: Michael Collins, a 2004 Park University graduate, has been elected chair of the university’s board of trustees for the 2015-2016 year.
Collins is the president and chief executive officer of the Port Authority of Kansas City. This is his second term as a trustee.
Three new members from the Kansas City area also were elected to serve three-year terms on the board. They are James Cornelius, N. Lynn Craghead and Richard Keller.
Cornelius is president of institutional banking and investor services at UMB Bank in Kansas City. Craghead is senior vice president at U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corp., a subsidiary of U.S. Bank. Keller is chairman of the Command and General Staff College Foundation Senior Advisory Council at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.
Winnetonka High School
Engineering students excel: Two teams of students won awards in the Project Lead the Way Senior Showcase this spring.
Luis Perez and Eric Vela won first place in the KC STEM Innovator Awards. They designed a cross country waterproof spike cover to protect spikes while a racer is walking on asphalt or metal bleachers.
The team of Jesse Peters and Ian Whittlesey won a Commendation Award in the Kansas City Engineering Design Competition for their design of a garden-on-wheels.
The showcase was sponsored by the KC STEM Alliance, a collaboration of educators, business affiliates and organizations created to encourage student interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers.
Park Hill School District
Girls State: Three students were chosen by their guidance counselors to attend Missouri Girls State this summer.
They were Alicia Buehler and Madi Loescher, seniors at Park Hill South High School, and Izzy Wussow, a senior at Park Hill High School.
Boys State: Three students were selected to attend Missouri Boys State.
They were Bryson Grau and Ian McBride, seniors at Park Hill High School, and Bjorn Carlson, a senior at Park Hill South High School.
