Gladstone Rotary Club
Scholarship recipients: Five Northland graduating seniors have been awarded scholarships.
Recipients from Staley High School were Hannah Gregg and Tyler Rodvelt; from North Kansas City High School, Safiya Ali; from Oak Park, Renee Hill; and from Winnetonka, Afron Abdi.
The students each received $1,000 to help with college expenses. They were chosen based on academic excellence, commitment and focus, motivation and service to others.
Two scholarships commemorate longtime club members: the John Michael Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Safiya; and the Loyd Gentry Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Afron.
The club awards scholarships annually and partners with area schools throughout the year in community and academic service projects.
Student leader: Evan Masters, a 2015 graduate of Platte County R-3 High School, was named Project Leader of the Year at the 2018 Enactus USA National Exposition in Kansas City.
Enactus is an international organization promoting student participation in entrepreneurial projects and community outreach.
Masters is a senior majoring in finance and management on the campus in Springfield. The award recognizes him for contributing more than 500 hours to eight projects.
Park Hill High School
State winner: Abigail Bidwell, a junior, qualified for national competition after winning first at the state level of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
She won the Focus on Children event in the area of child development. The national leadership conference is June 28 through July 2 in Atlanta.
Abigail is also 2018-2019 regional historian.
