Student artists: Artwork by Northland students was included in the annual Student Art Exhibition earlier this month on the campus in Leavenworth.
The students were Kiyah Ford and Sabrina Golubski, both from Smithville, and Leigh Cobb of Platte City. They were among 34 students selected for the exhibition.
West Platte High School
Musician chosen: Zofia Farley was chosen by audition for the Missouri All State Orchestra.
Zofia will perform with the orchestra at the Missouri Music Educators Association’s annual convention in January at Osage Beach.
National Athletic Trainers’ Association
Safe Sports Schools: Three Clay County high schools were recognized for providing safe environments for student athletes.
Excelsior Springs, Oak Park and Winnetonka received the Safe Sports School award. The certified athletic trainers at the schools are Brett Morton at Excelsior Springs, Matt Skare at Oak Park and Amanda Guess at Winnetonka.
The trainers monitor physical education classes, team practices and games. The award recognizes schools for providing the best level of care, injury prevention and treatment.
Park Hill South High School
National honors: Journalism students earned recognition at the Journalism Educators Association/National Scholastic Press Association fall convention.
Delaney Barnicle, a junior, was awarded a superior rating for yearbook layout or theme. Samantha Oathout, a senior, earned an excellent rating in sports copy and captions.
Honorable mention was awarded to Maddie Anderson, a senior, in sports action photography; Elyssa Bezner, a sophomore, in newswriting; and Lieana Sherry, a senior, in review writing.
“The View” was a finalist for the scholastic press association’s newspaper Pacemaker Award and the “South Side Scoop” for the broadcast Pacemaker Award.
