Board of Trustees: Jacqueline Snyder of Parkville has been elected to serve as a trustee for the university.
Snyder is chancellor emeritus of the Metropolitan Community College’s five-campus system where she served as chancellor and chief executive officer for 15 years until her retirement.
Previously, Snyder was president of Penn Valley Community College and an administrator and educator at Johnson County Community College.
Snyder has served two terms on Parkville’s board of aldermen. She was recognized with a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Emporia State University in 2006 and was inducted into the University of Kansas Women’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
She is one of two trustees who began their terms on July 1. The other is William L. Perry, who holds a bachelor’s degree in history and math from Park and was named recipient of the university’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999. He is president emeritus of Eastern Illinois University.
Park Hill South High School
Leadership workshop: Madelyn Judah, co-chair of Youth with Vision, met with U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill this summer as part of an anti-tobacco campaign.
Judah, a senior at Park Hill South, talked with the senators about protecting youth from tobacco products. The workshop was sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
University of Kansas
National scholarship recipient: Krista Irick, a graduate student from Liberty, was awarded a Critical Language scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
Irick was among 14 students awarded scholarships for overseas study this summer. She studied in Baku, Azerbaijan.
