Winnetonka High School
Musical opens: The curtain rises Thursday on the “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in the arena theater of the high school located at 5815 N.E. 48th in Kansas City, North.
The musical, a comedy about a group of six middle-school students competing in a spelling bee, runs through Saturday. All shows are at 7 p.m. and tickets are $5 at the door.
Members from the audience are selected at every performance to be part of the show.

Seniors in the cast are Madison Dodd, Evie Dusenbery, Zach Faust, Kevin Purkaple, Victoria Schildman and Adarius Wells.
Other cast members are Adeana Carr, Janae Bell, Richard Cox, Alexandrea Erisman, Emma Evans, Zoe Goss, Randall Jackson, Kali Holman, Jackson Mattingly, Scotty Sharp, Elijah Stenner and Tannar Walden.
Members of the production staff are Sheri Coffman and Jason Elam, directors; Zach Faust and Katie McKernan, choreographer; Ron Steen, accompanist; Kevin Vo, percussion; Chris Waage, bass; and Ian Whittlesey, technical director.
Kansas State University
Degrees awarded: Three Northland students were awarded graduate degrees during fall commencement on the campus in Manhattan.
From Kansas City, North, they were Don Jamoles and Derek Lawson, master of science degrees, and Robert Fisher, a doctorate degree.
Liberty North High School
Scholar Bowl: The varsity team placed second at the Truman sKnow Bowl earlier this month at Truman High School.
Team members were Hillary Albert, Tim Haynes, Wes Speer, Madison Stwalley and Elliott Yoakum.
They answered correctly 240 questions during five rounds of competition.
