Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, a casual dining restaurant chain, specializes in Chicago-style pizzas and craft beers. The company was founded in 1976 and now has about 100 restaurants in 22 states, including one in Overland Park.
The restaurants offer more than 30 craft beers on tap, along with appetizers like jalapeno cheese pretzels and Italian nachos, specialty pizzas and calzones, build-your-own pizzas, twice-cooked chicken wings, burgers and sandwiches, entree salads, and pastas.

<bullet>Ted’s Cafe Escondido, an Oklahoma-based Mexican restaurant chain, has started construction on a 7,000-square-foot restaurant, which also is scheduled to open this fall. The company entered the area market with an Overland Park location in late March and a Lee’s Summit location opened on July 13.
Ted’s, which was founded in 1991, concentrates on fresh ingredients and made-from scratch items such as tamales, tortilla soup, fajita nachos supreme with meat slow-marinated for 72 hours, fajitas, pork chili verde, and chicken Monterey.
▪ Boot Barn, a Western and work wear retailer, is scheduled to open a 9,000-square-foot store at 8353 N. Booth Ave. on Aug. 5. A grand opening is planned for Aug. 21 to Aug. 23. The Irvine, Calif.-based company was founded in 1978 and with the recent acquisition of Sheplers Western Wear, Boot Barn now operates 201 stores in 29 states.
It sells such items as boots, jeans, shirts, belts, hats and jewelry. Brands include Wrangler, Ariat, Justin and Carhartt.
New Smoothie King
Joe and Pattie Cali, and Danny and JoEllen Spini, have two Northland Smoothie King operations and now will open a third, this one near Liberty.
The 1,700-square-foot shop is scheduled to open in mid-August in the Plaza at Shoal Creek Plaza, 9269 N.E. 83rd Terrace. The couple plan to open two more locations, possibly in midtown and Lee’s Summit.
