Bicyclist at 22nd and the Paseo critically hurt after being hit by van

A Kansas City police officer carried a bicycle back to a patrol car after a cyclist was hit by a vehicle Monday at the Paseo and 22nd Street. According to police, the cyclist was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle was cooperating with police.

A 40-year-old bicyclist was in critical condition Monday after being hit by a motorist around noon at 22nd Street and the Paseo.

The wreck happened when a southbound van collided into a bicyclist crossing the street.

The driver, a 36-year-old Kansas City woman, stopped shortly after the crash and cooperated with police. She was released at the scene.

The bicyclist, a Roeland Park resident, was taken to a nearby hospital.
