KCK woman dies from injuries suffered in Tuesday traffic crash

A woman fatally injured in a Tuesday afternoon traffic crash in Kansas City, Kan., has been identified as 66-year-old Janet Eimer.

Eimer, of Kansas City, Kan., died after the driver of a second vehicle allegedly ran a red light and crashed into the passenger side of her vehicle at 18th Street and Kansas Avenue, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

Shortly before the crash, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper activated his car’s emergency lights and tried to pull over the driver of the second vehicle for a traffic infraction, but the driver refused to stop, according to a patrol spokesman.

The trooper had not started to pursue the vehicle, but was following at a distance. As the trooper crested a hill, he saw the collision, according to the spokesman.

The 45-year-old driver has not been charged, but he is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault in connection to an unrelated case, according to jail records.
