Emergency rescue crews recovered the body of a missing teenage swimmer from a small lake in Shawnee Tuesday night, according to authorities.
Fire department crews and a dive team from Overland Park had been called to search for the teen after he was reported missing while swimming in a small lake in a subdivision near Johnson Drive and Widmer Road.
The teen had been reported missing about 8:30 p.m., said Shawnee Fire Marshal Corey Sands.
The teen had reportedly been swimming with a friend and was growing tired while trying to make it back to the edge of the lake. The friend left the water to retrieve something from a vehicle and returned to see the teen was missing.
