Longtime news anchor Susan Hiland will leave WDAF-TV Fox 4 next week to become the director of media and public relations at North Kansas City Schools.

Hiland, a Kansas City native, graduated from Oak Park High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in electronic media from Missouri State University in Springfield. She serves on the Northland Education Foundation Advisory Board.

Hiland, who has spent more than 20 years in the news business, has worked for ABC News in Chicago, KDNL-TV in St. Louis, WFIE-TV and WTVW-TV in Evansville, Ind., and WTNH-TV in New Haven, Conn., according to her profile on Fox 4’s website.

WDAF hired Hiland in 1999, and she has spent the last 17 years in the anchor chair. She co-anchors Fox 4 News at 5 and 9 p.m. with John Holt.

Her last day at Fox 4 News is Aug. 26. She will start at the North Kansas City School District in September.
