A 22-year-old from Kansas City, Kan., has been identified as the motorcyclist who was killed in a Friday morning crash on Interstate 635.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report, Stephen L. Bean died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet with a face shield.
The crash happened just before 11 a.m. Friday. Northbound Interstate 635 lanes at Metropolitan Avenue were closed for hours as police cleared the area.
When the crash occurred, officers were conducting traffic enforcement in the area. They watched Bean’s motorcycle gain speed and run into a Ford Ranger pickup.
The online report said Bean was in the middle lane at a high speed and the pickup was in the left lane. Bean was changing lanes when his motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup.
After impact, Bean’s motorcycle went to the inside shoulder and struck the barrier wall, and Bean was ejected.
