An estimated 100 puppy visits — some as surprise Valentine gifts — brought cheer to Kansas City area offices on Friday and raised about $3,500 for Great Plains SPCA, a local no-kill animal shelter.
Spokeswoman Rachel Hodgson said the unique fund-raiser consisted of 45 scheduled morning visits, dubbed Puppy Grams, and possibly 60 afternoon visits in conjunction with Uber, the ride-hailing service. The afternoon sessions were requested and filled using the Uber app, she said, and a final tally wasn't available.
"This is money we greatly need" for pet-saving programs, Hodgson said.
