The strong thunderstorms that swept through the Kansas City metropolitan area overnight left thousands without power early Wednesday.
As of 7 a.m., about 9,000 KCP&L customers were without power. The bulk of the customers were on the Missouri side.
Some of the areas hardest hit by the outages included Gladstone, Grandview and Kansas City.
Westar Energy was reporting that nearly 350 customers in Johnson County, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties were without power.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Public Utilities was reporting that 875 customers were without power.
