A Kansas federal judge sentenced a Kansas City, Kan., man on Monday to 25 years in prison for his role in a May carjacking and robbery.
Derrick L. Freeman, 28, earlier had pleaded guilty to armed robbery, carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Freeman admitted that he and four co-defendants robbed a man May 12. Two weeks later, the group stole a minivan and wallet from a driver who had stopped at a State Avenue convenience store.
The group led police on a 17-minute chase that ended in a plowed field near Leavenworth Road and North 184th Street in Basehor. Prosecutors alleged that Freeman fired a handgun at pursuing officers before his arrest.
