Leawood lawyer dies in Florida water scooter accident

A Leawood man was killed in a water scooter accident Sunday afternoon off the Florida coast, according to the Englewood, Fla., Herald-Tribune.

Lee Hollis, 54, was riding the water scooter when it collided with a motorboat in Lemon Bay near Placida in Charlotte County on the Gulf of Mexico coast. One of Hollis’s legs had to be amputated, and he died Monday. All four people in the boat were knocked into the water, and one of them was seriously injured.

According to The Hollis Law Firm’s website, Hollis had been a lawyer with Sprint before starting his own practice in 1996. He specialized in representing clients who were injured by prescription drugs and medical devices. Before attending law school, Hollis had been a television reporter and announcer. Hollis leaves his wife and three sons.
