Freezing rain and snow are forecast for KC, so weekend travel could be slick

It might not seem possible on this pleasant December day, but wintry weather systems are headed our way and could make for treacherous holiday travel conditions this weekend.

Above-average temperatures continue Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the fifties. However, a strong cold front will push across the region Thursday night, the National Weather Service predicts, bringing much colder temperatures and a chance for light freezing rain late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Then a second storm system is forecast for Saturday and Sunday, with a chance for wintry precipitation across much of Kansas and Missouri.

With highs in the twenties and thirties Friday through Sunday, that precipitation is likely to be in the form of snow, but it’s too early to predict the amount.
