Wife of Kansas Senate majority leader arrested after traffic crash

The wife of Kansas Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce was jailed Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic crash in Hutchinson, police records show.

Sarah L. Bruce, 41, of Nickerson, was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. after her vehicle struck another vehicle in the 100 block of South Main Street in Hutchinson. She was booked into Reno County Jail on the allegations, according to online booking records, and had bonded out by Wednesday evening.

In an e-mail Wednesday evening, Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson called the traffic crash involving Bruce “a minor accident.” Records show that the vehicle struck by Bruce was driven by a 16-year-old Hutchinson boy.

Terry Bruce, R-Nickerson, represents District 34, which covers Reno County and the northern half of Kingman County. His first term was in 2005.
