Kansas City’s bid for the 2016 Republican National Convention got some heft Monday with the announcement that the honorary co-chairmen include some of the highest-ranking Republicans from both sides of the state line.
Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas leads the list, along with Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas,U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri and former Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri.
“It speaks volumes that this impressive group of current and former public servants and statesmen are willing to lend their support to our bistate effort to bring the 2016 convention to KC,” Mark Holland, mayor of the Unified Goverment of Kansas City, Kan., and Wyandotte County, said in a statement.
Kansas City received the official request for proposals last week, and responses from interested cities are due Feb. 26.
