A southeast Missouri woman was sentenced to seven years in prison for backing over and killing her girlfriend during an argument.
Angelia Hanson, 30, was sentenced Monday for the July death of 43-year-old Jody Lane in Cape Girardeau. She pleaded guilty in October to first-degree involuntary manslaughter.
The Southeast Missourian reports Hanson dragged Lane several feet before realizing she had hit her. Testimony at a preliminary hearing indicated that Hanson believed Lane had gone back into the house after the argument and thought she had run over a curb when she backed up.
Prosecutors acknowledged Hanson had no criminal intent but said she had a pattern of reckless behavior including several drug and alcohol-related charges and a 2005 assault on a law enforcement officer.
