KC streetcar facility site dedicated to transit advocate Kite Singleton

Kansas City Mayor Sly James and the City Council on Thursday dedicated the future site of the downtown streetcar maintenance facility to urban design expert and 40-year transit advocate E. Crichton “Kite” Singleton.

The facility, estimated to cost $10 million, will be built at Third and Holmes streets in the River Market. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2014 and be completed a year later.

It will be an environmentally friendly building, designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design gold standards, the second-most exacting level of environmental building requirements.
