Raytown man dies after being shot while in Independence

A 33-year-old man found sprawled in an Independence street with a gunshot wound to the head early Wednesday has died, according to Independence police.

They identified him as Erik S. Schwartz of Raytown.

Officers found Schwartz after responding to a shooting call about 1:45 a.m. in the 400 block of North Grand Avenue. Schwartz was rushed to the hospital.

Witnesses told police that two men ran from the scene. Complete descriptions of the men were not available. No arrest had been made Wednesday. The incident remains under investigation.
