Platte County man convicted of sexually abusing teen must serve 160 years

A Platte County man convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing a teenager must serve 160 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole, a judge has ordered.

Jason D. Wright, 40, of Edgerton, was convicted after a jury trial in September. He was charged in May with three counts of statutory sodomy.

Wright pleaded guilty to statutory sodomy in Clay County in 1999. Because of that conviction, the only possible sentence for Wright in the current case was life in prison, with a judge determining how long before he becomes parole eligible, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.

Platte County Circuit Judge Abe Shafer set that time as 80 years for each sodomy conviction, with the sentences to run consecutively.

Wright sexually assaulted the victim for several years. Many of the attacks occurred almost daily after school.
