A former Grandview woman pleaded guilty Friday to filing false tax returns as part of a $158,000 fraud scheme.
Kelsey R. Jones, 34, who now lives in Houston, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court where she faces a sentence of up to five years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
According to federal prosecutors, Jones recruited other people to file federal tax returns under their own names and then created false documentation to submit to the Internal Revenue Service.
Some of the money from tax refunds was deposited in her bank account, sometimes without the knowledge of the taxpayer.
