Life sentence issued in Olathe murder

A 36-year-old Olathe man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the 2011 shooting death of another Olathe man.

Robert Shaun Ward was sentenced in Johnson County District Court, where he pleaded guilty in July to a first-degree murder charge in the death of David Wayne Barry. Ward also was sentenced to 21 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Barry, 35, was shot and killed in September 2011 at Ward’s residence in the 500 block of E. Brier Drive.

Under Kansas law, Ward will have to serve 25 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
