Noland Road reopens after being closed for suspicious package at Independence motel

Authorities have reopened Noland Road after a suspicious device was found earlier Tuesday at an Independence motel that forced a stretch of the busy roadway to be shut down.

Police deployed a robot to dismantle the device. The parts and other evidence were collected. No arrests were made, but authorities are continuing their investigation.

The device was discovered about 7 a.m. at the Super 8 motel at 4032 S. Lynn Court Drive. Police deployed a robot to investigate a package that was stored in a wooden box, said Tom Gentry, police spokesman.

Authorities then decided to shut down Noland Road between Interstate 70 and East 39th Street as a precautionary measure. Representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called.
