Missouri man accused of growing pot in house set on fire by his mother's cigarette

What began as a fire call ended up with an eastern Missouri man accused of growing marijuana in his basement.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Mo., reports that emergency crews were called to a Park Hills home early Saturday after a the resident's mother fell asleep with a lit cigarette, catching her mattress on fire. Police were able to extinguish the small fire before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters then searched the house to make sure everyone got out safely. They reportedly found a small marijuana-growing operation with about 20 plants, lighting and watering equipment in the basement.

Formal charges have not been filed.
