A body found Sunday in a car submerged in a Clay County pond is thought to be that of 20-year-old Robert Seth Walter, missing since Aug. 3.
A Clay County Sheriff’s Department spokesman would not confirm the identity, saying notifications still needed to be made, but he said the vehicle was registered to the Walter family.
A message posted Monday night on a Facebook page dedicated to the search for the missing man said Walter’s body had been found.
“It appears as though he had been in a horrible car accident and was found submerged in a pond,” the post said.
Clay County Lt. Will Akin said there were no signs of foul play and it appeared the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn in the road.
A couple spotted the car in the pond near Route H and 100th Street about 2 p.m. Sunday.
Walter was last reported seen shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 3 near 17th Street and Madison Avenue in Kansas City. His parents said Walter had recently been promoted at his job, had a college scholarship and was planning to move into a loft.
