23 protesters arrested at weapons plant in south KC

Twenty-three protesters were arrested Saturday morning at the new National Nuclear Security Administration plant at Missouri 150 and Botts Road.

Protester Henry Stoever, a lawyer, said the arrests came after some of the 60 protesters entered the property. Honeywell manages the plant, which makes non-nuclear components for nuclear weapons.

Those arrested included two 85-year-olds and Stoever’s wife and daughter, he said.

“We believe nuclear weapons have no business in this world anymore,” Stoever said. “These weapons are depriving people in need, those who are hungry, those who lack shelter. People around the world should receive these resources rather than the military.”
