Cyborg, Coenen square off Saturday night in MMA rematch at Ameristar Casino

As rematches go, this one has the makings of a classic.

Reprising their showdown of three years ago, Brazil’s Cris Cyborg and Marloes Coenen of The Netherlands square off tonight in the main event of an all-female mixed martial arts card at the Ameristar Casino Hotel.

Topping a stacked Invicta FC 6 lineup featuring 11 bouts, knockout artist Cyborg (11-1 with one no-contest) and submission ace Coenen (21-5) will fight in the first Invicta FC world featherweight championship bout (145 pounds).

The first time they fought, on Jan. 30, 2010 in Sunrise, Fla., Cyborg won via technical knockout (punches) in the third and final round.

Other pairings on tonight’s card include the co-main event of Tokyo’s Ayaka Hamasaki (9-0) against undefeated Brazilian Claudia Gadelha (9-0) at 115 pounds; Sarah D’Alelio (7-3) of San Jose, Calif., against Lauren Taylor (6-0) of Anchorage, Alaska, at 135 pounds; and Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (5-3-1) of Pleasant Hill, Calif., against Jennifer Maia (7-2) of Brazil at flyweight.

Tickets, priced from $35, are available online at TicketFly.com. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the first undercard fight is scheduled for 6.

The first four bouts — preliminary bouts — will be televised for free on DirecTV, DISH Network and Fight Now TV; the remainder of the card is available via pay-per-view on cable and satellite. The entire package can also be purchased at Ustream.TV.
