Two women were arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery after fighting each other over a 25-year-old man around 12:45 a.m. Friday, Wichita police said.
The man’s girlfriend, 24, scheduled to fight his his ex-girlfriend, 21, at a Wichita street corner, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
During the fight, the 24-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the other woman in her left forearm, creating a 2-inch laceration. The 21-year-old then took out a baton she had brought and hit the 24-year-old in the head, leaving an open wound, police said.
Officers arrived on the scene and called EMS, after which the 24-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Since her cut “wasn’t such that it needed immediate attention,” the 21-year-old was taken in and interviewed by police, Nolte said. She eventually was also taken to the hospital, police said.
The man they had been fighting over was arrested under suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
Both women were arrested after they were treated.
