Three charged with attempted murder in Shawnee beating

Three people were charged Thursday with attempted first-degree murder in the beating of a 69-year-old man in his Shawnee home early Wednesday morning.

Among the defendants is the victim’s stepdaughter, 22-year-old Nicole Rose Carter, who also lived at the man’s house in the 5400 block of Flint Street.

Court documents accuse her and two other defendants of “repeatedly striking Dennis Davey in the head with a blunt force object” with the intent to kill him.

The other defendants are Adam Ryan Hersh, 23, and Whitney Terrice Hersh, 24, both of Kansas City.

All three are in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond each.

Shawnee police were called to the home just before 1 a.m. Wednesday on a reported armed disturbance. They found Davey with multiple head wounds caused by a blunt object. He was able to talk to police before being taken to a hospital.

Three people were seen leaving the house. Carter was arrested nearby, and the two others were located with the aid of a police dog.

The defendants are scheduled to make their first appearance Friday afternoon in Johnson County District Court.
