Kansas City police are investigating three unrelated cuttings, including a sword attack, that occurred within 90 minutes overnight Tuesday.
All the victims are expected to survive.
According to police reports, the first attack occurred about 11:30 p.m. at Armour Boulevard and Harrison Street, where a woman confronted her husband, who was with another woman. The 27-year-old wife yelled at her 25-year-old husband, then slashed him in the neck, leaving a four- to five-inch wound.
The husband was uncooperative with police. Officers arrested his wife and found a knife and a rock of apparent crack cocaine in her pocket.
About 30 minutes later, police were called to the 10600 block of East 98th Terrace, where they found a 21-year-old man who had been cut on his hand, knee and belly with a sword. He told police that a man he had met earlier in the day was at his girlfriend’s apartment and had offered to sell him heroin, so he kicked him out. The victim and girlfriend then went to the store.
When they returned, the same man, now wearing camouflage pants and matching jacket, confronted them. The victim fought with the man, who pulled a sword and cut him, leaving deep lacerations to his fingers and knee and a small cut on his belly.
Police recovered a bent sword from the parking lot.
A few minutes later, police were sent to Linwood Boulevard and Gillham Plaza, where a 58-year-old man had suffered a severe cut to his left wrist. Police learned that the victim and alleged attacker had been drinking together when the attacker tried to steal the victim’s duffel bag.
When the victim refused to let go of the bag, the attacker cut him and ran away. The attacker then returned, took off his shirt, wrapped the victim’s wound and apologized. He fled again before officers arrived.
